According to a video from 03:21 posted on Chude Podcast on Saturday September 19, 2026, Segun Johnson admitted that he grew up genuinely disliking his father, believing that his father was responsible for driving his family out of their home.
He made the disclosure while reflecting on his early years under his mother’s care.
Johnson explained that after his family left his father’s house when he was about four years old, he formed the belief that his father had chased them away.
This belief, he said, shaped how he viewed his father for many years, particularly as he watched his mother struggle to raise him and his siblings alone in Okrika, where she sold bread to support the family.
He said his mother did all she could for them despite the difficulties, describing her as the only prayer warrior in his life.
According to Johnson, growing up with this understanding meant he carried resentment toward his father well into his teenage and young adult years, without knowing his father’s own account of what had happened.
In his words, Segun Johnson said, “So I actually grew up not liking my dad.
“I was like, who did this? He in your mind he chased you guys out,” he said, describing the version of events he held onto as a child.
He added that it was only after he finished secondary school and made a personal decision to visit his father that his perspective began to shift.
He explained that he wanted clarity because he realized his mother’s account had come mostly from an emotional and heartbroken place, prompting him to seek his father out directly before his father’s death.
