Nigerian Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has responded to a woman who described him as a “Nigerian political slave” following his special Friday greeting to Muslims.
Omokri, in a post directed at Miss Rogers Rose, questioned why she was upset by his decision to greet his fellow Nigerians on Jumu’ah, the Muslim congregational prayer observed on Fridays.
He noted that Rose, whom he described as a White American beauty queen based on her profile, lives in the United States, where he said religious freedom, human rights, liberty, equality and the pursuit of happiness are constitutionally guaranteed.
“Thank you for your feedback. I am wondering why a White American beauty queen (according to your profile) is so upset with me for greeting my fellow countrymen and women on Jumu’ah (Friday),” Omokri wrote.
He said he was “at a loss” as to why she would take offence at his greeting, adding that he found her reaction and choice of words surprising.
Omokri further remarked that her response sounded like the kind of expression he said was common among some Nigerians from a particular part of Southern Nigeria.
“It is indeed a mystery!” he added.
Despite the criticism, Omokri ended his response on a conciliatory note, wishing Rose well and asking God to bless her.
“In any case, I wish you the best, Miss Rogers. Thanks again, and may God bless you,” he said.
