Wike: His True Intention Of Not Joining APC Is To Avoid Playing Second Fiddle -Kenneth Okonkwo

Former Labour Party leader and Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo has shared his perspective on Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State governor, regarding his decision to remain politically independent from the All Progressives Congress (APC), even while serving in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Okonkwo expressed his views in a post on his official X account on September 20, 2026, as discussions about Wike’s affiliation with the ruling party and his interactions with various political figures were reignited.

He suggested that Wike’s choice not to officially join the APC might stem from his desire to maintain political autonomy and avoid diminishing his influence within the party. Okonkwo indicated that Wike is aware of the political landscape and has strategically positioned himself to sustain his relevance.

Describing Wike as a seasoned politician adept at maneuvering through Nigeria’s intricate political framework, Okonkwo noted that Wike’s relationship with President Tinubu is primarily driven by mutual political interests rather than full loyalty to the APC.

Okonkwo also hinted that Wike might be positioning himself for future political chances, arguing that the FCT minister’s current stance could align with a broader strategy as political dynamics shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Since leaving the governorship of Rivers State, Wike has remained a significant player in Nigerian politics. His decision to accept a ministerial role under President Tinubu while still associating with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sparked extensive debate.

Wike was a key PDP figure who supported Tinubu during the 2023 presidential race, even though the PDP nominated Atiku Abubakar as its candidate. His political ties with the Tinubu administration continue to attract public attention.
