Segun Showunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has questioned Peter Obi’s plan to move Nigeria from consumption to production, asking how the NDC presidential candidate intends to achieve the promise.
During an interview from 13:25 on TVC News, Showunmi argued that Obi often presents campaign ideas without explaining the practical steps required to implement them.
He referred to Obi’s agricultural proposal, noting that the former Anambra State governor had highlighted Niger’s large landmass as an opportunity to produce food. However, Showunmi questioned how the government would encourage people to farm and provide the incentives needed to make the plan successful.
The PDP chieftain also raised concerns about the financial requirements and timeline for implementing the proposed agricultural reforms. He asked whether Obi had considered the previous government investments in agriculture that failed to produce sustainable results.
According to Showunmi, presenting a policy idea is not enough without explaining its cost, implementation process, and expected outcomes.
He further challenged Obi to provide details on how his administration would overcome the difficulties that have affected Nigeria’s agricultural sector over the years.
In his words, “He will say, ‘I’m going to run consumption to production.’ When you try to listen deeply, okay, what does he mean? He will run to the landmass of Niger. And say that because the landmass of Niger is more than that of Europe, therefore, they can produce all the food. He will not put context.”
