A Nigerian man who returned from Europe has cried out after alleging that a piece of land he bought for ₦65 million in Edo State is now being resold by the seller for ₦120 million.
In a video that surfaced online on Tuesday, the man said he bought the land from the brother of an All Progressives Congress, APC, deputy governorship aspirant in the state after suffering for years abroad to raise the money.
“According to the man, after so many years in Europe, suffering just to make money, I came back to my state and bought a piece of land for ₦65 million from the brother of an APC deputy governor aspirant in Edo State. Now, he wants to sell the land to another person for ₦120 million, and he’s telling me that I can do anything to him,” he said.
The man displayed documents he claimed showed proof of payment and ownership. He alleged that despite having completed the transaction, the seller was trying to revoke the deal and resell the property to another buyer at a higher price.
He called on the Edo State Government, the police, and relevant authorities to intervene and protect his investment.
“All I want is justice. I worked hard for this money abroad. I came home to invest and build. Now I’m being threatened,” he added.
As of press time, the identity of the APC deputy governorship aspirant and his brother have not been independently verified. Neither the Edo State Police Command nor the APC has issued an official statement on the allegation.
Land disputes have been a recurring issue in Edo State, with the state government previously warning against “omo onile” activities and fraudulent land sales.
In a related development, legal experts say buyers should ensure proper documentation, survey plans and registration with the state lands registry to avoid such cases.
Meanwhile, civil society groups have called on the government to set up a task force to address land grabbing and protect diaspora investors in the state.
