Special Adviser on Media to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Anthony Ehilebo, has raised concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s reported holiday at a time when Nigerians are facing mounting economic pressure and paying as much as N1,500 for a litre of petrol.
Ehilebo made the remark during an interview FROM 6:22 on Monday, September 14, 2026, while discussing the performance of the Tinubu administration and the political choices Nigerians may face ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The governor’s aide drew attention to what he described as a striking contrast between the President’s reported activities while on holiday and the daily struggles of Nigerians dealing with the high cost of fuel.
Ehilebo said the situation was particularly concerning given the impact of elevated petrol prices on transportation, household expenses and the wider cost of living across the country.
He said he had seen a report indicating that President Tinubu was on the second leg of his holiday, while Nigerians continued to contend with soaring petrol prices.
He stated, “I saw a publication from the presidency, or I think it was a newspaper or Channels TV, that published a story where the President was on the second leg of his holiday, while Nigerians are struggling to buy petrol at 1,400 to 1,500 naira.”
The comment formed part of Ehilebo’s broader criticism of the administration’s handling of the economy and its response to the hardship confronting citizens.
He argued that the government’s approach to governance should be measured not only by policies announced but also by their impact on ordinary Nigerians, particularly at a time when the cost of basic necessities continues to place pressure on households.
Ehilebo’s remarks come as political parties and presidential contenders intensify preparations for the 2027 election, with the performance of the Tinubu administration expected to remain a major issue in the campaign
