Sex educator, public health professional and content creator Elizabeth Adewale has opened up about how her career has affected the way men approach her.
Speaking with The PUNCH, Adewale said being known for discussing sex has attracted significant male attention, but much of it has been driven by sexual interest rather than genuine interest in her as through social media, she is often unsure whether they are genuinely interested in getting to know her or are simply curious about her work a person.
“People assume that because I talk about sex, I must get a lot of male attention. I do get a lot of male attention, but much of it is sexual. Most men who approach me want to sleep with me, experiment with me or know what I’m like in bed.”
She explained that when men approach her through social media, she is often unsure whether they are genuinely interested in getting to know her or are simply curious about her work and views on sex.
Adewale added that the same issue occurs offline. She said some people change their behaviour after discovering that she is a sex educator, becoming eager to discuss sex, ask sexual questions or make sexual comments, which she described as a major turn-off.
