Prophet Joshua Iginla, founder and senior prophet of Champions Royal Assembly, has condemned claims that pastors are responsible for Nigeria’s problems, asking critics whether they voted pastors into political offices.
Iginla made the remarks in a recent video from 00:10 shared on Facebook while speaking about depression, disappointment and the tendency of some Nigerians to blame religious leaders for the country’s challenges.
The cleric questioned how pastors could be described as the problems of Nigeria when they do not control the country’s resources or occupy the political offices responsible for governance. He said, “How are pastors the problems of Nigeria? Did you vote us into power? Are we the ones controlling the resources?”
According to Iginla, many pastors across Nigeria have continued to assist poor and vulnerable people through charitable activities, including feeding those in need, without necessarily seeking political positions.
He urged Nigerians to direct their concerns and frustrations to those responsible for governance rather than making pastors the target of public anger.
Iginla said there was a need for Nigerians to examine the source of their frustrations, noting that people sometimes transfer their anger to individuals who are not responsible for their problems.
The prophet also linked depression to previous failures, saying disappointment could affect people’s judgment and make them turn against people who may actually be helping them.
He further urged Nigerians to distinguish between the responsibilities of religious leaders and those of elected political office holders.
