Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Masari, on Tuesday said he has never seen a Nigerian President with better plans for the country than President Bola Tinubu in his nearly 40 years in politics.
Masari stated this in Katsina while speaking with journalists on the administration’s economic and security policies. He said the President’s reforms, though tough, are necessary to reposition Nigeria for long-term growth.
“According to the former Speaker, President Tinubu has demonstrated the courage and vision to take decisions that previous administrations avoided. In nearly 40 years of my involvement in politics, I have not seen a President with clearer plans and determination to fix Nigeria,” Masari said.
The former Katsina State Governor cited the removal of fuel subsidy, unification of exchange rates, and ongoing efforts to restructure the economy as bold steps. He added that the President’s focus on infrastructure, agriculture, and security is already yielding results.
Masari also urged Nigerians to be patient with the administration, noting that reforms always come with short-term pains. “We must endure these sacrifices now so that our children and grandchildren can inherit a better Nigeria,” he said.
The comments come amid mixed reactions from citizens and stakeholders over rising cost of living and inflation. Labour unions and civil society groups have continued to criticize some of the government’s policies, while calling for more social safety nets.
President Bola Tinubu assumed office in May 2023 and has since rolled out several economic reforms aimed at stabilizing the naira, increasing revenue, and attracting foreign investment. The administration has also prioritized road construction, student loan schemes, and renewed fight against insecurity.
In a related development, the Presidency said on Monday that over 3 million households have benefited from conditional cash transfers and other palliative programmes introduced to cushion the effect of the reforms.
Meanwhile, Masari called on political leaders across party lines to support the President’s agenda, saying “nation building requires unity of purpose, not politics of bitterness.
