He Had Been Sick’ — Abuja Woman Denies Drug Use After Man Dies In Hotel

According to a report by News Central on Sunday, September 27, 2026, a married woman, Rukayat Muhammed, has spoken publicly about the death of a man she admitted visiting at a hotel in Abuja before his body was later found under Katampe Bridge along the Kubwa Expressway.

The body of the unidentified man was discovered on August 26, 2026. The incident triggered an investigation by the FCT Police Command, which later arrested Muhammed as part of efforts to understand the events that led to his death.

Speaking in a video interview, Muhammed confirmed that she had gone to a hotel with the deceased. She explained that the man collapsed shortly after returning from the bathroom and did not show signs of foul play.

“According to Muhammed, “I went with a man in a hotel. The man slumped and died. He went to the bathroom to ease himself and on coming back, he slumped and died.””

She dismissed suggestions that the deceased may have taken drugs before collapsing. According to her, he had been battling a health condition prior to the incident.

“According to Muhammed, “No, he did not take any drug. He had health challenges. He had been sick.””

The police said investigators traced Muhammed through the deceased’s missing mobile phone. They also stated that findings showed she was married and allegedly had a romantic relationship with the deceased. Reports further indicated that she had saved his contact on her phone as “Safiat 2”.

Muhammed explained why she left the hotel with the man’s phone. She said her intention was to access his contacts and inform a relative about his death, but she could not unlock the device.

“According to Muhammed, “I went outside to check his contact if I can get any of his contact to call them that something happened like this. Reaching outside, I discovered that I don’t have access to his phone that is locked.””

The FCT Police Command said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the man’s death, what transpired at the hotel, and how his body ended up under the bridge.
