Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, on Tuesday said he will continue to urge the Igbo people to vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu instead of Labour Party’s Peter Obi, describing it as “the right decision to make”.
Mr. Umahi made the statement during an event in Abuja where he listed projects executed by the Tinubu administration across the South-East.
“According to the Minister, I will continue to tell the Igbos not to vote for Peter Obi but vote President Tinubu because it’s the right decision to make. President Tinubu means well for the South-East and for Nigeria,” Umahi said.
The former Ebonyi State Governor cited the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, rehabilitation of federal roads in the South-East, and appointments of Igbo sons and daughters into key positions as reasons the region should support the President.
He added that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration is already delivering infrastructure and economic opportunities that will benefit Ndigbo in the long term.
Mr. Umahi’s comment has since generated reactions on social media. While some APC supporters praised him for his loyalty, others, especially supporters of Mr. Peter Obi, criticized the statement and said voters should decide based on performance.
Peter Obi, who is from Anambra State, polled the highest votes in the South-East during the 2023 presidential election.
In a related development, President Tinubu has repeatedly called for unity and inclusion, urging all regions to key into his administration’s development plans.
Meanwhile, the Minister said the Federal Government will not abandon any part of the country and that more projects are billed for the South-East before 2027.
