Dickson Iroegbu, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has defended Peter Obi’s record in public office while contrasting his position on fuel subsidy with that of ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking in an interview from 24.55 with AIT News, Iroegbu said Obi’s opposition to restoring fuel subsidy was connected to his approach to addressing waste and alleged corruption in the petroleum sector.
He also referenced controversies associated with Atiku’s record in public office, including the Mambilla power project.
Iroegbu argued that Obi’s activities in government had been extensively scrutinised without producing an established link to corruption.
“Peter Obi has been looked at inside out; they have searched for everything; there’s no link or whatsoever to corruption that can be tied to Peter Obi,” Iroegbu said.
He maintained that Obi’s record, in his view, gives Nigerians grounds to have confidence in his approach to fighting corruption.
