Senator Shehu Sani has recalled his experience of spending more than four years in prison as he responded to the detention of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Speaking in an interview from 10:24 with DCL English, Sani accused El-Rufai of persecuting and jailing people unjustly during his time as governor.
Sani said El-Rufai has spent 200 days in detention and described his current experience as reaping what he sowed while serving as governor.
The senator also said he personally spent more than four years in different prisons as an activist, arguing that his experience means nobody can lecture him about detention.
Sani further alleged that members of the Islamic Movement in Kaduna spent more than five years in prison under El-Rufai’s government. He said the administration strongly opposed attempts by judges to grant them bail.
In Shehu Sani’s words: “El-Rufai has served 200 days in detention, but I know that as an activist I have been in prison, I have stayed for over four years in different prisons so nobody can lecture me about detention”
